Tee hee. I always see you posting flowers I wish I could grow though.

I recently (after successfully flowering my first phal) decided to expand my collection beyond phals lol..
I picked up a few NOIDS from from different genus.
If I can successfully grow and flower those I said I could study branching out into the more exotic orchids.

I don't know what the heck my problem is with Phals now! I've learned to not over-water them (always rotted the roots!) - so then I had one that was doing well root-wise, I crown rotted it! Then I had a couple that were doing really well for about a year and a half; re-bloomed extremely well - got some pests, became diseased ... *sigh* I do have a couple I got last summer that are doing well (for now!) *knocks wood*

This is why I like to encourage people to try different types of orchids - I think some people that start with Phals, hear them recommended as "beginner's orchids", maybe have trouble with them, and maybe think they just can't grow orchids at all.

My best early success was with an Oncidium (grew AND bloomed well). If I had started with only Phals, I'd probably have given up on orchids some time ago ...

Congrats on your new leaf!

Hmm... does sound like a problem.. I avoid crown root by something the pot in a pan full of water.
It's easier for me that way and it avoids alot of issues.

My friend (who so far had killed several phals, oncidium intergenerics, dendrobiums, brassia, and miltonia) just managed to keep and re flower her first phal with vase culture.

It's a nice presentation as well.

I just got oncidiums... It's only been about 8 months and I'm still nervous about killing them.
The new growths were reassuring but now the leaves are wrinkling.

I hope your phals live and flower for you.
It would be great notb to be titled notorious phal killer anymore lol...

I always get excited when I start seeing new leaves appear at this time of year. It's especially exciting if it's one that's been bought in the last year and has not yet done anything
