Miltonia

Thank you. I hope it is not a Miltonia regnelii as it is impossible to get 29.4 here in the spring. It would be great if it is another less demanding bluish Miltonia that we could get to flower again. I thought the Miltonia moreliana looked nice and would be very pleased if that Miltonia is what it is and if it is possible to get it to flower again here. Indeed I shall be very pleased if we can get the orchid to flower again whatever kind it is.

I agree with Silken on this one. I have always found that my Miltonopsis needs a cool period in order to bloom. Miltonia are a little different, I believe.

I find the several Miltonia I have like intermediate to warm temps but they don't need hot and steamy all the time. Mine grow in a greenhouse that in winter goes to 55F at night and 65F in the day. One with 3/4 spectabilis in it just sent out 3 new growths from a small plant over the winter. They are very adaptable from what I see. More so than the cooler loving Miltoniopsis although these can tolerate some warmer temps in the day so long as they can cool down at night.

When the sun shines it can reach up beyond 30 degrees centigrade on my glazed balcony in the sun for a short time even now. If I get a piece from my daughter I shall put the orchid in the sunshine on the balcony when it is 30 degrees.

Hopefully not in direct sun and with some good moving air or it will suffer.

This page includes both cool growing Miltoniopsis and the more intermediate ones known as Miltonia. Read the temperature paragraph but keep in mind it refers to both types.

I was wrong;my daughter has described a Miltoniopsis I now believe and it was not blue. However I am still not sure. She does not have a picture but said her orchid was like the one here in the first link but with the even darker violet colour of Miltoniopsis Jambalaya in the link after it.

Pansy Orchids should not be a problem to bloom in your country. They are for the most part cool to intermediate growing (45 F - 85 F/7.2 C - 29.4 C).

Moderately bright indirect light.

Moderate humidity (50% - 70%).

Grow evenly moist, not sopping wet.

It is a seasonal bloomer. They usually bloom during the spring.
