Cutting a leaf is fine but just put some cinnamon on the cut to help it dry and keep out pathogens. If it hasn't spread at all in the few weeks you have seen it I doubt it is anything more than the edema that the other poster suggested. I find when things are bad they go really bad really fast.

Okay, great! I will definitely keep an eye on it. Ever since I got it home (I have killed so many orchids in my younger years ) I have been paranoid and checking it thoroughly every day. I am fairly certain my fiance thinks I'm crazy over there obsessing over them all the time <_< lol. It would be the definition of success if I could successfully manage to not kill one!
Purple cast on the leaves is nothing to worry about.
The bumpy stuff on the back of that leaf in the last picture is physiological. Not scales.
I do not know why those form but they just happen sometiems and nothing to be alarmed either.

The bumps are not dangerous save:
- if there's cold coming in, then you'll have the edema syndrom. Got some of these bumps on one phal, no issue, it's warm. But it won't go away.
- if the bumps make some sort of line and progress, then it something like a leaf miner, and should be treated with a systemic insecticide. It's a rarity but occurs.

This said, it's a healthy chap
Awesome, thanks! It's cold outside and they're near the window so there is a temperature difference at night. Our house is kept around 70 degrees though...should I bump the temp up just slightly or do you think it's okay?
