Default Phal keiki ! What's going on?

What's going on with my phal's keiki? It is growing too fast(already has three leaves) and it is about 40 days old. But I noticed some new growths on it's base that look like buds. I haven't seen anything else like that, not even in a photo. I am curius and worried. Is everything ok? Have you ever seen anything like this strange thing?
Is there anything else I have to do to keep it alive?

I know this might not be a terribly satisfactory answer, but this is the best thing I can think of.

If your plant is a hybrid Phal, chances are, it was probably cloned.

It could be a mutation as a result of cloning, idk.

So I guess I have to wait and see the result of a mutation like this one. I can't imagine how it's going to look like if these weird buds bloom ! I'll post a photo if it does .

Your orchid might be like the one in this video by Soo Neaty:

She has a plant that looks like a Phal, but it's probably a hybrid with something else that makes it more branchy. She says that sometimes when blooms fall off, she gets a spike out of that spot. It's not caused by cutting.

If your plant is like hers, you're lucky! Her plant looks really cool!

EDIT: Nevermind. Your plant can't be the same, because her branches aren't from keikeis, and they don't have leaves or anything.

Still a cool video... but not like your plant.

I will look forward to seeing what happens with your keikei!

Please do.

This is an unusual mutation for a Phal keiki to have. Usually, they don't behave in such a manner.

The woman in the video owns a complex Phal hybrid, which is what many of the "NOID Phals" and many of the named Phal hybrids are. In it's genetic line, it did inherit traits for branching from Phals that produce branching inflorescences.

There are quite a few Phal species that have branching inflorescences. One of them is Phal bastianii, another is Phal schilleriana, and these are but 2 of several.

It isn't anything to worry about. Some Phals are keiki making monsters. Here is a picture of my Phal. pulchra and all the growths are from one mother plant. I had some of the keikis bloom with no leaves but it had roots.

There are many Phal species who willingly produce keikis. My Phal. mariae and pallens both produce stem keikis at will.

I had that same thing happen on one of my phals. It had a flower and a keiki from the tip of a spike. It didn't hurt anything. The flower lived for a few weeks and then dropped off and the keiki is still there.

That sounds really encouraging to me. Let's hope my little crazy phal will do it.
