Emergency repotting? Female
Default Emergency repotting?

Hi everyone, I recently bought a phal from my local flower shop. She's definitely a beauty how ever I did notice one of the leaves were withering, and blackish. I trimmed it off with a pair of sanitized clippers and sprinkled some cinnamon on the cut edge (I read someplace online that this helps with healing).

I did go a step further and took her out of her pot to examine the roots. I noticed many dry and some mushy brown roots. I trimmed those off and trimmed down some of the roots in hopes that they will grow back healty.

My questions are:
1) Did I do the right thing with trimming the roots?
2) My orchid is in bloom, will the un-oppened ones fall off?

Thank you so much everyone

Yes, it's always a good idea to trim dead roots, but double check to see that the root is really dead before you cut. A brown root may still be alive and healthy. Of course, if it's mushy or hollow, then it's dead.

It is possible that the remaining buds may not open. Do not worry too much about it, because sometimes buds blast even if you have not disturbed the roots, simply due to a change in environment.

Make sure the pot has adequate drainage holes, and take care not to overwater.
