I have a difficult time going on vacation also, I had to miss one of my granddaughters wedding last year, and will have to miss another ones this spring. The last one was in WA. this one will be in Mexico. There is no one that would be able to take care of 200+ plants. ...Jean

This can't be! How about joining a local orchid club? Or finding someone from a high school botany class or something? Two hundred plants might be a bit much! You are a true devotee..

I'm a little late on this, but I'm getting the fatigue too! I think it's just because I'm so busy with school and sports that it is hard to have time to properly care for all my plants. But then some days I find something I love or something exciting and it gets me interested in it again. Sometimes I think about getting rid of them all and being a normal teenager for once,

But Ryan, can't believe you want to get rid of your I-Hsin Sunflower! It is still one of my favorites, I could never have too many! And that Cranberry Queen is a good cross too!

Sunflower is an awesome plant for sure. But I need balance. Thankfully I've automated a lot of things in my grow space. If I'm not in love with the plant it needs to go. Thankfully, my variegated plants are my favorite and I'm happy to keep those. In and out of bloom they're awesome.

Yeah! I'm in love with the traditional way of potting and displaying Fukiran! <3 It's amazing!

My sunflower is doing well, but I;m impatient for it to bloom, haha!

My orchids takes nearly 1 hour to water everyday since many of them are mounted and the weather here is 32 degrees.
I can't go for a holiday without worries.
Some of the seedlings i had for years are still not flowering.
Many of the Noids i had since long time back are flowering, but i stopped looking at them.
I suppose this must be a fatigue.
I have been exchanging or giving up some of my less rewarding plants, and also when a noid is up for division and repotting, i stopped doing so.

I can't imagine missing travel and life events on account of my plants. Yes I worry for them when I travel but automation is key....watering, lights, humidity. All are automated! But, I still need to do period flushes etc and that is where I find my fatigue. I supposed if I grew in a green house where I could let water pour onto the floor, I would be nearly as fatigued.

I have the same problem. But with 3 cats too ! And houseplants !
What we do ( we go away for 2 consecutive weeks every year ) is:
- move a lot outdoors where rain and the occasional hose-watering from a neighbour takes care of them
- have a neighbour's daughter feed the cats and spray-mist the indoor plants.
Orchids are tough. I have had one or two that weren't watered at all for 2 weeks and they were fine. Fortunately in Summer, humidity is higher and that helps a lot. But I do worry.............over critters eating everything outdoors, but its something that I can get over...........I think

My plants have always survived our trips. I soak all the orchids well, water the other plants and give them a reservoir, then go! In the past we had the rabbit and guinea pigs in addition to the gerbil, birds, fish and dogs. The plants were the least of my worries.
I give away orchids that I come to find boring. Others can enjoy them and I am relieved of the burden of caring for them. People always seem happy to get them (as happy as I am to be rid of them).
