I could def take some off your hands, or you could also try selling them on eBay

I don't ever feel like getting rid of everything mainly because I spent quite a bit of time and energy collecting them all. Even the most common hybrids are important because of that reason.
I could always dump them out and buy again when I want it, but it takes a lot of time to look and compare and finally pick one out. For example, I could look 30 plants of Wildcat and not finding any one plant I like.
Then I only have a limited space and I get bored easily, so I have to buy new plants in flower every so often.

One genus I try to keep are paphs as they are mostly seed grown and each plant of the same grex has different flowers. Of course I dump out the ones I find ugly or not in love with any more.
Many plants have come and gone so far, but paphs take up most of the space for this reason.

Last year when I moved, I took that as a great way to reduce my collection and indeed I got rid of about 30 plants. but since then, I have bought a lot more than 30. lol

Now my available growing space is almost full and in the process of losing some as well.

One thing I have hard time with watering espccially in the hot summer. I didn't even go to a proper vacation last summer (I did go somewhere later in the fall though) because I was worried if my plants would be cooked and dried up to death while I was gone.
This year, I want to get away in the summer, so I'm really having a headache.

the best thing to do is either find a 'foster home' while you are gone or find someone to come in and water your plants while you are gone. i have the same problem, i worry about my plants while i am gone. i have a trusted neighbor and up to now i have brought my plants to him ( he lives exactly next door). i have a bulbophyllum that i really worry about. i just found out that the plant tolerates having its feet wet, that is a real advantage. this next trip, i think i will end up giving my neighbor access to the house, my orchid collection is getting too big .. find someone you trust.. !

I have mine in sh and those not in sh are automated to receive a min of water twice a day. Yes, I do grow inside, but the water falls on the plants and a concrete floor and evaporates within an hour. It works great and keeps my vanda types from drying up while I'm gone. This is the first trip I'm taking using this system and I've only tested it a few days but thankfully, my timer/valve fails in the closed position!

Agreed.... I have a friend who can care for everything in my house with perfection.
I dare say they might actually do better than I.
So I never worry about vacation.

the trick is to know enough so the friend can really do a good job while I am away.. this is why I am subscribing to this blog to learn as much as possible so that i can leave coherent instructions.. basically.. dont drown the plants, water them well, let them dry up a bit.. that is how i have kept my orchids in good enough shape.. now for for the flowering.. it is another matter entirely.. got two to flower for me. one a phal, the other an ocidium.. there is hope!

Not sure if anyone has suggested this, but it is what I currently do:

I use all plants that I have no attachment to losing or giving away in artistic displays that I give as gifts or sell. Glorifying the plant in an artistic way really brings out the passion in me.

This is very sweet of you, to pass along those orchids to future orchid lovers, who someday will be on this board asking questions!
