Ribbons are not the end all. The orchid club meetings are fun, it could be nasty as could be outside, and members bring their plants to the meeting, and suddenly it is spring and colorful inside for a few hours. It is always a delight. I am in awe of what people can grow! The six month honor system rule is a good one. The ribbons are really for skill and husbandry, so we need to be fully responsible and engaged with our plants. I got very little to show myself.. Someday it will happen!

Have fun and I hope you win a ribbon! I don't care either but it's still a nice surprise when you see a ribbon hanging from your plant

I meant to add previously that its fun being a volunteer clerk. Basically you are paired up with an AOS judge and "help" - with comments/what you think and writing out ribbons etc. You also get to see what judges are looking for in a plant,
Anyone can volunteer and I believe they are always looking for clerks.

Unfortunately I live in Canada so unless I'm mailing Back Bulbs it might be really expensive. Also I'm not really sure how to go about it. I definitely will go the orchid society route. I was at where they meet once a month when I attended the orchid show last month. I'm getting some pics together of the ones I want to get rid of. I'll post them hopefully today.

I periodically give away orchids. All the large oncidiums, a few cattleyas, and noID phals all found new homes. If I tire of a plant, it goes. But, I have had plants since I was small so I don't really mind the effort their care takes.

Ok guys here we go...

First up is a purple NOID. It's huge! I have it growing in sh and the container is well over a gallon in size. I don't have a photo at the moment but it grows a very strong and long spike every year and does branch if given the right care.

Second: Rousserole

Another large phal, heavily influence from leopard prince.

Third: Sunflower

A very strong plant with an insane number of roots. Spikes if you look at it.

Fourth: cranberry queen

An ok grower... It got neglected so under more careful conditions it would do great. Has a bronze like flower, influenced by venosa and smells delicious.

Sorry no current pic.

Fifth: Baldan's Kaleidoscope

Very strong grower too... Suffered some mite damage but they have been killed by tetrasan.
the flowers reflex when first opening but do end up having very good form.

More to come.

I think my version of fatigue is just not paying attention much to them for short periods. Usually over summer when not much is flowering I just water when I have too but it's hard to maintain enthusiasm. That all changes as Autumn is well advanced and I see some flower spikes coming and then I am back to normal.

If all else fails, IF you have a college nearby and IF they they have a horticulture or agriculture program they MIGHT take them. I know someone who did that....Jean
