Condition of new orchid
Default Condition of new orchid

I recently purchased a Cambria orchid (Beallara) online.
It came with some leaves chopped off about halfway (I am guessing they went bad so the retailer cut them off), some brown spots on some leaves and some going brown on the tips. There was also some green/blue mouldy bits in the medium.

Is this typical for this species? Should I flag it up to the vendor?

Oncidiums often get brown leaf tips even in "ideal" conditions. I should say rather that sometimes it is difficult to avoid. The mould is probably just from being in dark packaging for a day or two. If it has several pseudobulbs and a few leaves it will put out new growths and roots. Oncidiums are tough. On the other hand it really depends on what type of product was advertised.

Might the blue-green bits be fertilizer pellets?

There are two very plump pseudobulbs and it looks healthy, minus the chopped leaves. Was sold as a flowering size plant.

Yes the mould quite likely from moisture and darkness in transit, it certainly does not seem to have spread. Did not look like pellets and were only a couple of isolated bits, so likely is was mould.
