Yellow Phaleonopsis Care
Are yellow Phaleonopsis more difficult to look after than Yu Pin Pearl harlequin orchid or White Phaleonopsis? They are so bright and colourful and I have no yellow indoor plants so I want to get a yellow Phaleonopsis if they are not more difficult than the Phaleonopsis I have. Thank you for your help. I wish you all a great day.

If these are the standard looking phalaenopsis that you find in supermarkets and garden centers, just a yellow version of that, then they should be just the same as the white and harlequin ones. Most of these are heavily interbred which means that the conditions they need are pretty broard.
There are some phals which might have more specific care needs, but I think you would usually only find those as named orchids from orchid nurseries, rather than in the mass market.

Yes, they are at a supermarket. Then I shall get one as soon as I go there again, if they have one. They are selling Phaleonopsis with 2 spikes for only 70 Swedish crowns (6-7 GBP or 11-12 US dollars) now. It will be my daughter's Christmas present to me.Thank you for letting me know.

Pale Lemon Phaleonopsis
Today the sun shone, the sky was blue and it was 4 degrees above zero. Since my daughter did not have to work today we went to Fridhemsplan where I chose as my Christmas present from her the Phaleonopsis which you see here. I only have a webcam and am a terrible photographer so the result is not very good. Using the features on Photobucket I did my best to get more colour shown but even so you cannot see the colour very well. It is a pale lemon yellow colour with reddish brown petals at the end. I love it and shall replace one of my orange Kalanchoes (which are still blooming a little since the end of October) with it in the kitchen window. There were cheaper offers. They were smaller and not anything like as healthy looking. I was also allowed to look at the roots before we bought it and they are well developed. So far I have only seen orchids in a bark mixture here in Sweden, never once in moss, making it worth the higher price. Earlier today I repotted one of the 2 surviving orchids from before people on this fantastic site told me how to succeed. I removed all the dead roots and placed the healthy ones and the plant in the middle of the pot. They had hung out on one side of the pot so that it was in danger of tipping over. I referred to as the straggling orchid. It looks a lot better now. I shall do the same with the smallest plant which is also growing lopsided. I am most grateful to my dear daughter for this the best of Christmas presents.

Surviving Phaleonopsis after Repotting
I am glad you like my orchids and am equally captivated by their beauty. Here are photographs of the Phaleonopsis I have which survived my mistreatment. The larger one had several dead and lots of good roots. The smaller one had hardly any dead roots but only one long thick root and a few short thick ones. However I think they should survive and hope they will develop a spike or two and buds and flowers some time in the not too distant future. They look a lot better than before I repotted them.

Does exposure to sunlight change the colour of phaleonopsis? I think my light lemon yellow phaleonopsis is becoming less yellow and I do not want that to happen so I have moved it out of the sunlight. It also has got a little light mauve in the petals too now, which I do not mind. The bud which opened today is more yellow. Perhaps they change colour as they age?
