Looks like all the problems arise from the bad potting bark which probably had started to gone off because my other phal which was initially healthy after repotting has lost 3 leaf (and this one I didn't even water afterwards!!), and I quickly examine the root and found out that there were mold on both the roots and the bark....
Oh well both are in new bark now (from different company) which I had sterilised with baking in 300 degrees then soaked overnight.
Make sure to let the pot get almost dry right thru the centre and bottom before watering again. The Physan 20 is a good idea. I've been pormoting the use of kelp (seaweed) in a lot of posts as well because I really see improved root growth from using it. It might be helpful for this plant. It is often found at hydroponics stores and is just used according to directions in addition to the regular fertilizer routine. For me clear pots and kelp usually equal awesome roots.
I agree, Silken. The seaweed is helpful and so are the clear pots. I like being able to see what is going on with the roots. s/h is nice that way, too.
So I have pre-soak bark with fungicide which is root-friendly - apparently used specifically for roses, foliage and fruit trees prior transplant.
And I shall water with seaweed extract next time and crossing my fingers!!!
It's interesting that there is no clear pot in NZ commercially and I have to order them from eBay!!!
We can't get Physan in Canada but I was able to order some from the U.S. and clear pots are fairly hard to find here too. But I have ordered them from the U.S. and there is limited supply in other parts of Canada. I realize shipping for you from U.S. might be prohibitive.
