I'm single (and happy with it), so for me, Valentine's Day simply means there is an abundance of plants and flowers for sale. Score for me! I got a mini phal about a month ago, and a cyclamens last week. (non-orchid plant with heart-shaped leaves and interesting flowers)
Yes, the orchid has a name - and a long one at that:
Dendrobium speciosum var. speciosum 'Pigeon House' x 'Gold'. It shot out 5 flower spikes - a pair each from two pseudobulbs and one single one from a bulb that already has a remnant of an old spike from before I got the plant. Smells just like honey during the day. This one is still a youngster - I've seen some giant ones with 20+ flower spikes that win orchid shows...
Get suckered into buying grocery store phals after swearing them off is how I deal with valentines day lol. I love my orchids but I am gone alot and my roommate is lacking the green thumb carting 3 phals back and forth to my mothers every 6 weeks or so along with my other less hardy plants is enough. If i get more Ill need a trailer.
Valentine's for me was "Singles Awareness Day" and no orchids were bought.
But I'm planning on getting another one once I can find a store that sells anything but NoID Phals, Oncidiums and Cymbidiums and I can magically come up with some more space to put more orchids.
I'm another one that celebrates Singles Awareness Day. My mom got a beautiful Phal for Valentine's Day-2 flower stalks, almost a dozen flowers that are mottled reddish on white. Absolutely lovely.
Right now, I'm the resident plant expert, so I'm here, reading and learning as much as I can about Orchids and Phals.
