I would be inclined to think they might actually do OK outdoors where you are. I have a few species that come from similiar climates and grow them outdoors and only bring them in when the weather is very cold in winter. Have you got a reasonable level of humidity there as I have found that with a bit of compensation in the watering regime and some careful positioning to allow for shade, etc things adapt surprisingly well.
