When should I repot this oncidium? Female
Default When should I repot this oncidium?

This is an Oncostele Pacific Perspective. I last repotted it in September, so only 5 months ago. At that time, it was losing pseudobulbs to rot, and barely had any roots at all. Fungicide treatment has fixed the rot problem, and since then the orchid has grown up a ton of roots. It has also matured two new pseudobulbs, and in general seems to be crowding out of the 4" pot. There are also two new growths that are a couple inches tall.

I feel like it needs to get repotted to a larger pot soon, but when would be the optimal timing to do so? I'd hate to accidentally derail the recovery process.

You can repot it now as long as you don't disturb the roots in any way. Just take it out of the pot and pot it into another slightly larger pot. Do not over pot oncidiums. The optimal time would be when the new pbulbs have grown roots and those roots are 1-2 inches long. The nice fat pbulb I see should put up an inflorescence in a few months. Oncidium intergenerics don't like to have their roots messed with except when the new growth has pushed new roots. They don't like to be kept wet either. Damp is fine but not wet and soggy. Here is what I plant them in and others use a different media. But I like a medium size media that drains very rapidly and have never had rot when using this airy mix.Using this mix I can water every couple of days.
