I have killed a LOT of cymbids, so I will tell you what I know (???) - sounds crazy but I know the culture, just could not give the plants what they need.
They want BRIGHT light, not direct, but very bright;
They want cool temps - not cold, but cool; no higher than 75-80 F;
They want high humidity, but will not tolerate moisture standing on their leaves;
They wants constant air movement;
They need ample water, but need to dry out between, - they will not tolerate standing in water.
SLUGS LOVE THEM AS IF THEY WERE DESSERT- leaves, roots, pseudobulbs, every part. Same for locust and grasshoppers and small dogs.
They can be bad about scale and mealies as they have a lot of crevices for them to hide in.
Their blooms are beautiful, but they are just too demanding for me where I live. I wish I could grow them outdoors, but in Indiana, USA it is too hot and too humid w/ no air movement for them to tolerate it.
As I say - I have killed many a cymbidium - but finally had to decide it was a love affair that was not meant to be; since then I have just had to drown my sorrows by having lasting affairs with bulbophyllums, cattleyas, phalaenopsis, pescatorea, oncidiums, sophronitis, miltonias, --- well, you get the point.
Best of luck - I am sure that someone will give you better advice that helps you grow yours, and I will be watching, but have accepted - just not meant to be for me.
