Down here they have an extremely wide and varied selection of all types of orchids for about $5 - $10... you can get group plantings of 5 different phals for about $20....
I can't really help beyond that. Even my Lowe's and HD have big selections but the prices never go above $15 for the bigger plants.

On a random side note.... I hate to hijack but you seem to know your stuff... is this phal blue?
My purple walls lightened it a bit and made it a tad pinker than normal.
There's great debate amongst family and friends.

Unfortunately with don't have TJ in Canada. And I just saw today most ordinary looking Phals at HD: marked as on "sale" -from $28 down to $25.

This is certainly a BLUE ONE! For this one, I'd consider paying but... where to get one in Vancouver??

Thanks for sharing!

I just saw some $10 phals at my neighbourhood No Frills. No stray species, but some had a little more interesting flowers than the usual 'Just Add Ice' grown NOIDs. But this is in Ontario, I don't think the other provinces enjoy the low prices we pay for consumer goods.

Ching Hua's site has a download tab where their price list is. Here is the link: Download

List 16 has all the Cattleyas and most of them are pictured on their website. If you pre-order, the proper thing to do is to take it since they package it up and bring it specially for you. I suppose if you inspected it and thought it lacking, you could refuse it. They add a buck or two onto the price you see listed for shipping and import fees etc. Most of their Catts are called bloom size. They are not huge and I don't always get instant blooms, but usually next season. They come bare root all the way from Taiwan so I find it very helpful to soak them in some seaweed water when I get them home before potting. Catts especially seem to respond to this. It encourages root growth. Hydroponics places usually sell it and I bought mine last time I was in Edmonton at a small little place.

That's certainly unfortunate. I suppose you are quite a distance from the major growing areas.

Thank you. I got this phal from my local nurseries mini phal table in their tiny green house. $10 for all mini phals. The rest of the orchids in there are the same price as near you lol. I wanted to make sure so I didn't go around claiming my lavender phal as blue lol.
You might have to buy a bunch of seedlings of a cross and hope. I know there's a website in Canada that recently had seedlings of a cross similar to mine one sale.
They have equestris orange and dendrobium kultana fancy. I've been debating spending the $100

Sooooo many choices! I think I'm gonna go broke! How do you actually pre order? Do you do it through the supplier or the orchid society?

If you are a member of the orchid society they will advise if they are doing some pre-orders. Otherwise just e-mail Ching Hua or whoever and tell them which numbers and name of each item that you want. They have always been quite prompt and nice to deal with in my experience. Remeber to leave some budget for buying things that catch your eye at the show too! I don't have room nor can I really afford a bunch more plants but it is pretty hard to keep the list down to a modest size

Well, London Drugs, of all the places, started selling orchids in BC! Minis - $12.99.
Although the choice was quite modest and would not catch my eye, that's a good start. We need more competition here. Safeway, just a block away, sells those in a range of $20-26.
