Question What is this strange spike development?

This spike was stalled for a while, then activated and grew a leaf at the tip. Why? What is it trying to do? Is it an other way to grow a keiki? The plant is Phal. Coral Isles x corningiana.

Yup. Second pic looks like the base of the light green leaf is starting to swell.

Wow! That is so cool! I have a little basal keiki on one of my Phal's that lost it's center leaf on the Mother plant. How long has your keiki been growing? I heard basal keikis grow pretty fast but mine just got a 2nd leaf after about 6-7 months. Maybe that is fast in Orchid time?

Thanks everybody!
I am not sure how long it has been growing. I got this plant in June and it already had start of what I thought would be a flower spike. It didn't look like a basal keiki to me. Here is the picture of it from June:

It looks like it started out as a spike, but I agree with others it looks like it's forming a keiki now. No idea why
