how long till my Phal flower spike blooms?
My orchid I got last year for valentines day sent up a flower stalk and it has buds on it. They look healthy to me. So I was just wondering how long about it takes a phal to go from bud to bloom? It is just a Noid phal from the grocery store.

Each plant is different, and the waiting teaches us all patience. I've had some in spike for about a month now and the buds are just starting to form, but alas I must show patience as its still probably a ways off before they bloom.

just like paul Mc said you have to have patience, it will bloom it will just take some time. My plant took I think about a month before I got one bloom, maybe longer.

If you plant already has buds on the spike, I would say that you are probably 4-8 weeks away from blooming. I personally have been waiting on one of my phals to start its buds for about a month and the spike just keeps on growing! Like Paul said, it's a game of patience and waiting. Post pictures when it does bloom!

On your plant it will take 4 weeks, 3 days, and 12.5 hours to bloom. So patience Grasshopper. So get into that lotus position and say your chants of peace and goodwill. Happy New Year. On a serious note, warmth and light intensity are the keys. More warmth and more light intensity equate to blooms sooner. Be careful with the light though. No direct light. Paul is right. It takes time for the plant to form and open it's blossoms and it takes patience from you. But the long interval in which the plant stays in bloom will reward you in spades. Patience Grasshopper;-)

Sorry we can't give you a better answer. I came back to this thread and am now wondering if you believe the flower production has stalled for some reason, or if you were just generally curious about how long it would take.

Lol ok I will be patient. I don't think the flowers buds have stalled or been blasted there are new buds continuing to grow on the end of the spike. I decided to try more orchids since this one did so well despite the fact that I didn't bother to educate myself on orchid growing till now. I have now rescued 4 plants that are done blooming from my garden center and am contemplating buying more.

More!
Well they looked so sad there with no flowers but I could see new growth and the leaves looked healthy so I went ahead and bought them for 4.00! Poor orphans. I may run out of room on my window ledge though. I was considering ordering from Carter and Holmes they have a window sill collection so I can try other types besides phals. I have a Noid Den I got at the nursery but I have no idea what to do with it. I think I am suppose to let it have a winter rest? I really can't tell if I need to repot it.
