vase culture

Quick question...have successfully done vase culture with 3 so far and have had no problems. Have recently moved an older, established phal to a vase and within a few days started seeing signs of dehydration. As this phal was originally badly overgrown in a pot, is it reasonable to assume that it just needs a period of adjustment before it begins to look better or should I return it to a pot? I'd prefer not to lose this phal but I don't want to overstress it with too many changes in conditions.
