I bought a phrag. longifolium in bud last summer. The bud did not bloom, but the plant is growing. Will the bud bloom at all?

While it is still green it might very well bloom for you but to be honest if it hasn't bloomed yet I wonder if it will now. It seems to have been in bud for a long time. Patience is what is called for. If it turns brown then you will not see any blooms from it and you will have to wait for the new fan to mature.

Thank you for your response. I water my three phrags in the morning and put them in their water-filled saucers. At night, they drain. All have doubled in the number of fans. None have brown tips on their leaves. More shades are down now, so the greenhouse is brighter. If you have suggestions, please let me know.

Hi Barbara Jean and welcome to Orchid Board.

I would guess that if a bud has not opened after that amount of time then it's not going to. But it sounds like your care is good if the plant is growing new fans and does not have brown tips so it could just be that the bud gave up after the plant was moved from the shop/nursery to your home. That happens a lot with some orchids, not sure about these but it does sound like that's what's happened in this case.

P.S. I've moved this post to the beginner section as you will likely get more people who can answer the question there than in the introduction section. Welcome anyway
