Hello everyone, I am completely new to orchids and just got my first phalaenopsis orchid about a month ago. Everything was going fine until the last week or two the flowers have started to wilt and a couple have fallen off.
Thanks to the help from other posts on this site I discovered by plant had root rot! So I have recently removed the orchid from its old pot, and cut off the dead roots (lucky there was only 2 dead ones), and replanted the orchid in "Schultz orchid mix" that contains "western fir bark, horticultural charcoal and a naturally occurring volcanic rock" (is this mix good?) in a pot with holes.
Seeing how I am completely new to this I just had some questions. What is the best way/how often should I water my orchid? Its really dry here now, and I know they like humidity so I'm not sure how I should handle this. I was thinking of putting it in the bathroom to help with the humidity?
Also, The plant had a bit of white mold on the surface roots which i cleaned off with hydrogen peroxide, but is there a way to prevent this/ What do i do if it keeps happening?
Any info. / tips or tricks you could provide would be very helpful and much appreciated!
Thanks
Sharon
