Lea Marie Salazar dying - advice please!
The plant is a goner, but there is an active spike that continues to grow, very slowly though. Spike hasn't bloomed yet, but has several nodes.
Is there any conventional method (without involving chemicals or hormones) to convince that spike to produce a keiki instead of bloom.

Why is it a goner? Do you still have live roots? A dead crown isn't the end of the plant. As long as it can get enough energy from roots and leaves, you should get a basal keiki. What are the roots like?

I've only had one phalaenopsis suffer from crown rot but that one orchid produced three basal keikies as the mother plant finally died. Blooming and keiki formation are the two natural ways for a phal under stress to try to reproduce. If you give the orchid proper care I think there's an excellent chance that keikies will form. The only other option is keiki paste. My experience with keiki paste hasn't been very positive but some people seem to get acceptable results. Personally I would water and fertilize the plant as you normally do. Give good strong filtered light and hope for the best. Lea Marie Salazar is a very nice phal, so I wish you luck.

Thank you guys!
Now there is a hope. The roots seem to be fine, I will check them today after work.
Should I try to pull that black rotting piece out, or just let it be? I am afraid that it will go down through all plant and eventually affect the spike and roots. But then again, if I try to pull it out - I will most likely damage the plant inside and it might start rotting there even further down.

Leave it be completely. If you've got some worry there is still something going on in the crown, just dump a bit of hydrogen peroxide right on top of it. Then flush the pot with water to be sure it's all out, though it's unlikely to be a problem. Just keep it growing as you've been, and I think you'll be surprised when a keiki starts.

I had a similar issue with a violacea. After hp treatment, I moved it to a slotted pot. You can see the results 3 months later....

I wouldn't mess with the crown. Let it do it's thing and try to keep the crown dry. If you want to use something, I like physan 20 to control bacteria and fungus. But chances are you'll be fine if you just give it normal phal care.

Thanks everybody for great advices!
Orchidsarefun, seeing your picture is quite encouraging. Hope my plant sends out keiki too.
Tucker, I never saw Physan being sold here in Canada.
I think I will check the roots, pot it into fresh sphagnum, wipe the crown with hp and keep it warm, watered and fertilized.(also I will keep my fingers crossed of course ).
Sounds like a good plan?

If the roots are ok int he current medium, I wouldn't change it personally. The plant is already stressed, and I wouldn't add another. Just leave it, and see what happens if the roots look good. Tucker's advice is solid

Yes, They do look good. At least the ones that are sticking out of the media feel solid and get green when watered.
Then I will do all the above minus re-potting.
Thanks again for your help!
