Default short flower stems

I'm relatively new to the orchid world. Have grown the phalaenopsis orchids for several years and have OK luck with them. Sometimes they bloom, sometimes they don't. A few years back, I wanted to try something new and bought an oncidium orchid. The first year I had it, it never bloomed.
Last year it bloomed but the stems were real short and hidden in the foliage. This year I was surprised to see a flower again but as before it was very short and not visible until up close. What seems to be my problem? The plant looks healthy.

Welcome to OB!

So what is the name of the Oncidium in question? Not all will have long spikes. But knowing what it is is a good place to start for others to answer your question.

Yes, the name would help. Most oncidiums I know of have spikes that are very tall and visible.
