Default Pelantheria insectifera

Hello everyone!

I saw this peculiar orchid that goes by the name Pelantheria insectifera. Does anyone know anything about this orchid (origins, habits, anyone growing it)? I searched it on google and it only gave me a few foreign language results. Pictures can be found on al's orchid greenhouse's catalog. It seems to be part of the slipper orchid family.

Vandaeceous.

Upright growing.

Epiphyte of small to medium sized scrubby-like trees.

Occurs naturally in Southeast Asia, specifically, one of the places is Thailand.

The type of habitat they grow in is rather difficult to describe...

They don't grow in what is considered a typical lush rain forest. It looks more like a savannah. Which means it doesn't grow all that wet. There is a photo of it in a book called Wild Orchids of Myanmar, Volume 1: Last Paradise of Wild Orchids, by Yoshitaka Tanaka, Nyan Htun, and Tin Tin Lee. Keep in mind, I just said there is a photo, not actual detailed written info in this book. The book isn't about that. If you're interested in getting the book, you may ask in greater detail about what the contents of it really are.

Intermediate to warm.

Moderately bright indirect light.

Off topic: Is the artist for your avatar, Ayami Kojima? Is that character from the Castlevania universe or is it from something else?

The avatar is Alucard from Castlevania Symphony of the Night. I don't know the artist however.

From your description, the orchid most likely lives in a tropical dry forest.

If it's Alucard from Castlevania Symphony of the Night, then the artist most likely is Ayami Kojima.

I've played a number of the Castlevania games spanning the time it was introduced in the US all the way to the present. SotN is one I've never played.

Regarding the orchid, you should be ok with it. Doesn't appear to be terribly difficult to grow.

Try symphony if you can, it is regarded as the best castlevania game of all time by many.

I wll be considering getting the orchid next year since I already ordered a batch of others. They are Cory. vasquezii, Coryhpea Red Martian, Stan. wardii and tricornis. I will post pictures of them soon. They should arrive by Friday .
