Default Dendrochilum Filiforme

I've had this plant for a few weeks now. The medium it came in is very free flowing, containing polystyrene foam chips and large bark.

The Cultural notes I was given say:
"Philippines, 600-2250m, 3cm psbs, 30cm pend infls, many 6mm flowers, usually yellow."

Anyway, I've been watering it once a week with the same routine for my phals. The leaves look really healthy, but the bulbs seem a little dessicated to me... but what would I know!!

Just now I read on this board that these plants are water hungry, so I removed half the old mix, the plant was loose in the pot with very shallow roots, so I packed a bit of sphagnum moss around the plant and roots at the top half, leaving half the old mix below that and gave it a good water.

I don't want to do the wrong thing. Please advise your thoughts and any cultural notes on this species plant.
