Hello,
I'm just curious about the reasoning behind needing low light to help a 'chid recover. I know everyone always says to do that, but I'm just wondering why that is, because wouldn't high light (just enough for the plant, not too bright) be helpful for recovery because it gives the plant more energy?
Thanks!
I`m not an expert but my guess will be... If your root system is damaged, if you put your plant under bright light, it will force the plant to grow but the plant need to establish a good root system first !
Low light will let the plant re-establish a healthy root system.
If the roots are in bad shape the plant can't photosynthesize, take up water and food , high light will dehydrate the leaves/plant , but it does need enough light , gentle light not direct especially hot light . Happy growing Gin Photosynthesis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I primarily use the warm temperatures and shade when the plant is in a sphag-n-bag scenario.
The warm temperatures favor growth and maximizes the humidity to prevent desiccation of the plant. The lower light levels prevent it from becoming a broil-in-bag situation.
Even if not in a closed bag, higher light levels should be avoided, as high light=high temperatures in the plant, which is a desiccating force.
Thanks everyone,
That makes alot of sense!
This will help some of my 'rescues' as I'm kind of stubborn and have a hard time following advise if I don't know the reasoning behind it!
