Oncidium Patricia McCully Flower/Leaf Questions Female
Default Oncidium Patricia McCully Flower/Leaf Questions

I recently purchased what I believe is a Patricia McCully Oncidium from an Orchid show 2 weeks ago. It didn't come with a tag. My first question is do I have a fungus on the leaves? I sprayed it twice with a cinnamon/alcohol mix and it doesn't seem to be spreading but should I still cut off the damaged leaves? My second question is has anyone ever seen two flowers coming off the same branch? It almost looks like twins. It is so amazing! I wish I could get a better picture from the front. My last question is I thought the California seller had planted my new Onc in dirt because it was so fine. Just tonight I realized it is planted in extremely deteriorated bark. I have 3 beautiful spikes in full bloom. Will it be ok to replant after blooming? I would hate to lose this beauty!

You have an amazing plant. I love the festive colors and form.
Thats a cool twin flower that didnt have time to separate....
the yellow rings around the black center is fungi....you need to get hydrogen peroxide and spray it or dip a cotton ball and dab it on the infected leaf....then use a sharp scissors that you heat with a lighter and cut the infection out....it doesnt matter of your leaf looks polka dotted....just dont let them spread on the other healthy leaves

* no need to replant yet....maybe next year.

oh, do not use powdered cinnamon in spraying your plant it might dessicate the roots(use cinnamon paste=by adding water and dab the cut wounds of the leaves) but alcohol is a preventive for the fungi to return....alcohol evaporation might dry out your leaves but just moisten it as often as you can while it is healing....

I had this same plant. Mine didn't have twins, but I've seen twin flowers on phals before.

The plant I had also developed those dark ring spots along the edge of a few leaves. I just trimmed them all off. Usually the affected spots have fruiting body of whatever fungus that might be causing the spotting, and serve as spore spreader.

I love the flowers, but unfortunately the subsequent blooms opened up brighter and brighter in color that the last few were almost white!
This plant does not take heat very well, so I think you should do well in Colorado.
