Default Root growing out of pot

I'm very new to raising an orchid, I've had this one for about a year and it appears that a root is coming up out of the pot from deep inside. Is this normal, should I do anything with this root?

WELCOME AND HELLO !
I have that same orchid you have.
Look for postings from the other members regarding Phalaenopsis care and culture.
If you have it for a year and the roots is coming out of the pot...then you are doing something right.
The roots will tend to go and search for humidity and moisture from the air where it is located.
Trust your instincts. Good Growing.

Do some readings that you may find in the net....being informed about your plant is a good way to maintain it....the best rewards on orchid growing is seing your plant rebloom again and again....

Orchid roots go everywhere! Many of the very commonly cultivated ones are epiphytes (grow naturally on trees), so the roots aren't naturally staying "underground". Perfectly normal for them to creep out of pots, or just grow into the air.

Root growing out of pot
Question Newbie with phals and cats

I am a total neophyte when it comes to orchids. I have one “phal” and two “cats.” Like the original post mine seem to be doing great. I am soaking the bottom 4 inches of the pot once a week, 20-14-13, for a couple hours. I mix up 96oz at a time; I have been pouring it out onto another plant after three soakings. Is it depleted or am I wasting it? I am also using Bloom Booster, 11-35-15, one soaking per month. When will it be depleted? Would it be better to just add another teaspoon each month? I don’t want to make it too concentrated.
My blooms on the phal fell off after about a month, probably not enough light. I have at least one new leaf every month. Roots are really popping out above the medium and I am trying to train them to go back into the medium. I have them in 6.75 inch orchid pots, are there any larger? Neither of the cats has ever bloomed, one is putting on new leaves and roots, the other is just sitting there. They are different varieties. Shannon Conner – Pink Paradise is not doing anything, could it be dormant? It is not turning brown, it is green and a little shriveled/wrinkled. I got the phal in April 12 and the cats in August 12. Any suggestions? Or should I take it back to Lowe's for a replacement?

Catts generally need more light than Phals to bloom.
