70's temps should be good. That is what I have here now and they are fine.

Check out repotme.com. They have some good videos on repotting and it's a really informative website.

Awesome. Thanks for the input!

I was just brainstorming and realized that I could very easily add a reptile bulb or another bulb that produces a decent amount of heat to the track lighting that is currently lighting my phal orchid.

Here is a what I currently have set up.

Withering flower.

This is the room I am working with. I really want to have atleast 4 or 5 healthy orchid species, or possibly another plant species. But Im the kind of guy that wants to do stuff right. So I really appreciate the help from you guys!

Ill get used to the higher temperatures. Haha.
My understanding of temp importance for Phals is to keep the roots warmer. A plant heat mat under the pot should keep your Phal happy while you have the room temp more to your liking.

I was doing some browsing for heat mats and found this.

Amazon.com: Hydrofarm MT10006 9-by-19-1/2-Inch Seedling Heat Mat: Patio, Lawn & Garden

Its right in my price range and fits the top of the shelf perfectly. Would this be a good choice for heat mat? And then simply repot the plant and place the pot on the mat?

That would work well. I bought mine at the local hydroponics store.

Default Step forward!

I bought the heating pad that was mentioned earlier, but it arrived a bit too late for the white phal orchid that I first purchased. It dropped all of its flowers and I cut the spike this morning. I bought the materials I needed to repot this plant and while I was out I couldnt pass up this phal.

The roots are green and healthy minus one or two small spots that were damaged. I trimmed them neatly and repotted the plant. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for the first orchid I bought. The roots showed some substantial rot. I trimmed the dead spots off and made sure the substrate was a bit drier than before. I watched a couple videos and read some articles on the whole repotting process and I am confident that I did everything correctly. Is there anything else I may have missed?
