Magnesium deficiency

If people want to make supplemental applications of magnesium then I would suggest using magnesium nitrate. It is available online from a number of hydroponics stores or you can even buy it directly from JR Peters:

Agreed David, that's what I do, but even Jack Peters will acknowledge that it is when the solutions are concentrated that reactions are more likely to occur (he and I have discussed that, many years ago).

I have used Dyna-Gro "Grow" and Pro-Tekt together, but added to the irrigation water via two dosing pumps; trying to mix them into one concentrated stock solution tank would result in instant precipitation.

Sorry to pump up such an old thread, but I would have asked the same questions.

Is there any benefit in applying the epson salts in misting water, rather than through the roots?

I don't actually see an answer to the second question. Did the old yellowing leaves start turning green again on your orchid?
Does that happen, or will these be lost eventually due to this issue?

I have a Banfieldara which has been creating new growth so vigorously, it has started yellowing the tips of it's older leaves. Also some purple spotting has appeared(Loosk exactly like MG deficiancy in pics)
New growth is very green.

I think adding it to irrigation water is a better idea than attempting a foliar application. If nothing else, it keeps the leaves cleaner.

Magnesium is taken up and translocated slowly, so leaf yellowing or purple speckles from magnesium deficiency can take months to improve.

You sure about that? I recall dosing my plants with two tablespoons of Epsom Salts per gallon several years ago, and I saw a color change within a few weeks.

I was thinking relative to chelated iron, which turns chlorotic plants green in a day or two. Also Motes says the purple pigmentation of Mg deficiency of vandas in cool weather can take months to go away once supplementation begins.
