Shultz Orchid Food
Hello,
I received a potted Phalaemopsis orchid as a gift. I just picked up some Schultz orchid food for it.
It say use half a scoop to every 2.5L, every time you water.
Do I just mix 2.5 Litres of this, and use the pail until it is done over time. Or use all 2.5 litres every time I water.
Any help would be great...thanks!

Use enough to pour a fair amount thru the pot/media. Water well, then allow media to become very nearly dry before watering again.

I don't use this brand. My practice is to feed weakly weekly (considerably less strength than mfg recommended).
Depending on the potting media and your ambient conditions you may end up feeding it too frequently if fed every watering.
Check out Ray's section on feedings.

I don't know how big that scoop is, and assuming that's the 19%N formula I've seen online, 0.68 ml/L will give you 125 ppm N.
Personally, I feed at every watering, but at a much lower level, something on the order of 1/4 of that or so. I used to feed at 125 ppm N at every watering, but have reduced it based upon the fact that it is well established that people and animals live longer and stay healthier if given a slim, but complete diet, so I am trying it with my plants. I've been at it for almost a year now, and am pleased with what I'm seeing.

I use Shultz at full strength. the recommended mixing rate is .25ml/L
that comes out to about 45ppm N, if my math is correct.

I have Schultz houseplant formula and I used to use it on everything including my orchids.
Then one day I read about how urea based fertilizer isn't the best for orchids, so I switched to non urea fertilizer.
I don't really see any difference at all. hmmmm
The only thing that responds very well to it seems like my amaryllis. They are ginormous!!! They flower well too. not sure if it's due to the fertilizer or just them being strong though, haven't done comparison study on them. lol

i have the shultz houseplant one too. it says 7 drops per gallon i think. since its urea based i only use it to spray the leave undersides so the stomates can use it (idk if thats how it works but idk it made sense to me) i cant say if it works or not but my plants dont look sickly either.

Ray I just started my first s/h experiment and have found your site very useful. Are you saying you've backed away from the 125 ppm of N with s/h as well?
Thanks
