Default Oncidiums & Cattleya

Hi everyone... almost FRIDAY!!

I have a quick question... I bought my plants from an online store and when I received them they were potted in spagnum moss and were quite damp. I have repotted them with the better-gro special orchid mix- after about a week to 2 weeks some of the older leaves are turning yellow and wilting. Is this normal? I do have new growth on one of them but now I am worried that they don't like what I did. Any ideas?

The bark has raw fir bark, hardwood charcoal and coarse perlite.

Thanks! I appreciate any advice.

Hmmm... fresh bark will dry out quickly for a few weeks, tho it doesn't sound like a symptom of underwatering unless there are other symptoms as well... are you able to post photos?

this is normal! it happens to me too, after a while they will be good as new again! but i would suggest to keep them a little bit damp for 2 or 3 weeks then go back to normal. :P

No, unfortunately I don't think I can yet. I just started with the board a couple of days ago. Is there a place to go to post the pictures?

Looks like you have five posts so you should be able to post photos and links now. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ng-photos.html

Here are pictures below. I am not sure what is going on now. It looks worse tonight then it did earlier.

Looks like it's just the bract foliage yellowing, which isn't too concerning, except for the larger one, it seems to be yellowing from the bottom upward - seems to me mine usually start dying from the tip downwards - tho, I may be mistaken. Both do look like they could go into smaller pots. At this point, I don't know that I would be too alarmed, but you might check the roots, and pot smaller or put a small overturned pot inside the pots, or some styro in the center.

I agree with WhiteRabbit. Smaller pots. If the pot is too large there is too much medium that holds too much water for so little roots. The pot should be only slightly larger than the root ball. Also, consider that the plants have suffered a complete change in climate and light. They're protesting a bit.

I appreciate that. I have started watering them every other day until they get used to being dry... so far they are looking better. I appreciate all the help. I will keep you posted.
