Default Looking for a greenhouse or grow room build

I have recently purchased a townhouse, and will be moving in by the end of the month. I am wanting to DIY a grow room and greenhouse.
I have some pretty solid ideas about both, but I would like to see what other people have done.

Does anyone know of any build threads for either a grow room or a greenhouse?
Is there another name for Grow room?

I'm not sure which part of Canada you are from, but if you are from a cold area, grow room might be more cost effective. If you don't want to dedicate a room for growing, a large grow tent may be an option. Here is an example:

Im headed to building my own also from this stuff called Kee Klamps Kee Lite, Aluminum Railing Fittings, Aluminum Hand Rail Fittings, Aluminum Pipe Fittings - Simplified Building, Kee Klamp, Railings, Connectors and Structural Solutions,. you can make them any size custom fit to an odd area on what have you. Im going to order Aluminet Shade Cloth from ShadeClothStore.com to wrap around it. The nice thing about this is its portable and I can take it down If need be seeing that again I may have to move by the end of they year dangit. Pretty much like one the erector sets I had as kid and I like to build things and do it myself anyway. Keeps me from yelling at the neighbors about their dogs crappin on my 3 feet of lawn . Ive been going thru just about everything under the sun since I came here to OB and if you want a good laugh go back and look at some of the crap Ive built..

Im settled with the simplicity of these and the fact Im not locked into a SHAPE of what they have. I can do my own thing here and thats what I like

good luck

I use a growtent here in Alberta in my basement. Works great for growing cool loving plants. Temperature and humidity is controlled by a Hygrotherm. It is 78'' x 78'' x 78'' so plenty of room to stand up straight. I have a 72" x 30" table and a 48" x 24" table inside with room still for a 48" x 18" bakers rack.

Mostly carnivorous plants but also a few orchids.

Andrew

Hi Andrew, how do you deal with watering (and waste water colection)? It looks very nice.

Thanks naoki. All plants sit on trays with "eggcrate" to raise them above the water. Usually within 4-7 days this has all evaporated and is ready to be filled again when I water the plants. I use RO water from a filter upstairs under the sink and haul the water to the basement in 10L jugs.

Hi Andrew, That looks like a nice set up. Which brand grow tent is it and does it keep the heat inside if need be in the dead of winter. I grow in an unheated basement and something like yours may be exactly what I need. That or the one Naoki had a link to.

I grow my warm and intermediate orchids in a converted walk-in closet with a HPS fixture.

Thanks Bill. I bought it off a seller on ebay from Ontario, Canada but they are no longer selling on ebay from what I can tell. The material is quite thick so it does heat up well with the lights inside. Im using a total of 10, 4' T5's, so 540watts and during the winter it heats up to 75 during the day inside the tent, and my basement is about 55-60 degrees (unheated). I think it would be relatively cheap to heat 10 degrees above ambient temperature at night during the winter if need be.

Have you protected the drywall against mould and the like? That would be my only concern.
