Default How do you grow (and bloom) Laelia sincorana?

Hello,
I have recently got a small plant of Laelia sincorana var. coerulea that was advertised as bloom size. All my other catts mostly are seedlings, so I grow them year round on sunny windowsill potted into clay pots with chc and water once a week(they usually have completely dry media by then). They have been growing nicely roots and p-bulbs.
Now this little one can bloom, but I am not sure if it needs anything special for blooming or can be put together with rest and kept at the same regiment?

Any advice would be great.
Thanks.

Here is the plant:

Mine is grown mounted (but it can be grown in a pot), with as high light as I can give it and watering every day (it dries out quickly and is mounted with no moss or anything to hold the moisture). also give it cool temps and high humidity. One thing to note is that many of the leads will be blind, i.e., no flowers, since it appears to bloom in response to longer day length in the spring.

I grow mine with the rest of my Catts and mini-catts. They are in clay pots and sphagnum moss. Yours looks kind of small for blooming size though. Mine bloom in the summer around June/July. Ron is right that not all leads will flower. I only get one blooming a year. Here is a pic of one of mine in bloom earlier this year. This one (Laelia sincorana 'Sierra Crest') bloomed in July last year but it bloomed at the end of February this year. I grow under lights most of the year so it might of been confused on the time. Good luck! I really want a coerulea!

Wynn Dee.... I envy that you can grow on moss and have those pencil big roots....and get it to bloom beautifully
The only thing I can grow on moss are my Neos

Thanks Bud. I grow almost all my orchids in moss. I think I do well with it because I'm not one to over water. I actually need to water more!

I agree that the plant shown is too small too bloom. They not only have to be fully grown, but well established to bloom. Mine bloomed in February 2011 and July 2012, but don't ask me why the difference.

Here's mine from 2011 (picture) and 2012 (blog):

Thanks everybody for the valueable info. Beautiful blooms you got there Ron and Wynn Dee. Yes, mine does look much smaller than yours on the pictures.
So I will keep it potted as is with my other catts and hope it will grow bigger.
Would you call this species a "hard-to-bloom"?

Actually I find it pretty easy to bloom compared to a lot of other orchids. I think you can bloom it once it gets big enough. So no, I wouldn't call it hard to bloom. Ron says he grows his in high humidity and cool temps but I grow mine in intermediate temps and humidity around 40-60%. Humidity depends on time of year etc. Of course since his is mounted with no moss it would do better with high humidity. But I believe they are cool-warm growers.

I don't find it difficult, either. It just requires some patience since it only blooms once a year.
