Judging?
How do I know if my orchid is ready to be judged? This would be taking it to a specific judging session, not being pulled from a show display?
I don't want to bring something that is laughable in.....
The plant is RIO's Touch of Class and the bud should be open tomorrow so I will post a picture if that helps.

No one is going to laugh at you for bringing a plant to judging and if they do they shouldn't be in the judging system. I would bring it to find out more about what is worthy of an award and what is not. If it is not nominated by any of the judges, then ask one of them why not. If it is nominated the judges will probably talk about it at the end of the session and explain why or why not as far as an award is concerned.

Well if you don't understand the standards then you won't know. Each genus is judged differently. Maybe consult with a local judge or just take it in and ask for feedback. It's a lot of fun, I would just take it.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained! By all means, take it in. Do you know if it already has an award?
Technically after the judging, and if it is not awarded or screened for judging, the person to ask an opinion of is the head of judging for the night. If it goes to a team, ask the head of the judging team which judged the plant, not just any judge.
Just a hint, do not rush a flower into judging just as it opens. Most orchid flowers take a few days to mature. There are exceptions of course, but just be aware of the fact.
Good luck,

There are 2 types of judging ? 1) at your local orchid society and 2) for an AOS award ?
If your orchid already has an AOS award, can it be judged again ? If so, is it only for a higher award ?

It can be AOS judged again if a judging team wishes to judge it, and if it is awarded a higher score or even a cultural, which it may not have had before, the new award will be granted. If it scores lower on points for either, it will not be given the new award.

"If it scores lower on points for either, it will not be given the new award."
I don't think that is written anywhere in the AOS Handbook.
As a practical matter it is doubtful that a team would choose to score an awarded plant unless they thought it might receive a higher score than previously. However, should it score lower, I know of nothing that would prevent granting (or allow the elective withholding) of the award.
In regards to the original question, you can look up any previous awards to the species or hybrid grex before going to judging with your plant. If you do not have personal access to AQPlus or Orchids Plus you can have someone you know in your club look it up. Should it fail to measure up to existing awards in color, form, size and/or floriferousness then you might consider growing it up some. Otherwise take it in. No one will laugh at you at judging. It ain't a happening thing. That's not what judging is about.
If the plant does not measure up to an award it won't get one, but remember most entries are not awarded so you won't be alone.

Thanks everyone! The flower hasn't opened yet so I don't know if I will be able to take it in tomorrow or not.
I do not know if it has been awarded yet. My gut would be no because I got it last year just one month after Ruben registered the plant and it was the first flowering of all the seed crosses of this particular one. Everything that was open while I was there last year was a shade of purple and the one I got was a green.

Be patient. As a seedling, I strongly suspect it has not been awarded. Take the previous advise and see if you can find, if not other seedlings which may have been awarded, at least photos of the parents which may have been. Sometimes you can just Google the names and come up with actual parent photos if they have been posted somewhere. The more you can learn about your plant and its genetics, the more you will grow in your hobby.
