Hi I desperately need to repot my phal. Where's the best place to get some good medium from in the uk? Either shops, online or nursery?
I'm in South Yorkshire.
I've already tried this from homebase

Westland Orchid Compost 10L from Homebase.co.uk

Anyone know if Orchid Focus mixes are good? My local hydroponics shop stocks it and it looks good on paper.

I use it on my phrags and my vanda. So far so good. After MSU rain mix it is supposed to be the best.

Beckie, is that the stuff you repotted yours in recently (on another thread)? I bought some of this recently in desperation as I couldn't find any bark (having rejected the "orchid compost" first time I saw it because I was put off by the word "compost"... and then bought it because mine really needed repotting). It seems to hold water longer than seems right and there are lots of water droplets on the inside of the pot. I think I will be looking at repotting again.

Which do you mean?
I was told the Westland compost was no good so I've just got some orchid focus and it seems really good. Check pics on my other thread, really big chunky pieces of bark. Seems perfect

Orchid focus potting mix is ok, mainly CHC with some bark. Many orchid growers though don't use this and prefer our ready made mixes, prepared by us or our quality medium grade plain bark.

I've used Orchid Accessories mostly in the past and been pleased with what I've bought. As Nenella says Peter White is very helpful.

Also take a look at Keith's site in his signature above. He has some good looking mixes. I've only bought fertiliser from him in the past, but if I was still growing in bark (I use mostly Leca now) I would be tempted by the General Purpose orchid mix.

I have no idea who sells it, but I understand that Orchiata bark from NZ is now cleared by the government for entry into GB.

Do some digging - you'll be glad you found it.

Just searched and it looks as though Peter White of Orchid Accessories (as mentioned above) has started stocking it.
