Orchid flowers all fell off, now what?

My lovely little orchid decided to lose all of its flowers in the past week or so. My boyfriend bought it for me 2 months ago, so I am not sure how long it had been in bloom before I got it. I am wondering if this is supposed to happen, and if so, what is my next step? The leaves and stem look very green and lively, but then again, I am a newbie.

When asking about all your orchid-y needs, I highly recommend providing the name of the orchid and a photo/photos of the plant(s) in question.

In the meantime, to answer your question directly, the real answer is I don't know without the orchid name and some photos.

A lot of different orchid possess a lot of different traits, if I tell you the wrong thing without knowing for certain what your plant is and what kind of general health it's in, then I'd be doing you a massive disservice.

Many people with extended experience with orchids here on the OB would say similarly.

Although, I'm guessing/assuming (which really is a terrible thing to do when diagnosing problems), your plant is a Phalaenopsis, aka "Moth Orchids", (as most newbies end up with one invariably, and sometimes unknowingly).

Fyi, there are over 25,000 species of orchids currently known to science.

There are several thousand registered and unregistered man-made hybrids as well.

Add to that the numerous natural hybrids.

Then, tack on many more scientifically/taxonomically undescribed species of orchids that are still out there.

It's kinda hard to just guess from those kinds of numbers.

2 months is already a long times for blooms! Like Philip says, telling us what kind of orchid it is (or pic if you don't know the name) is of great help. We can't really give you any advice without knowing that.
