phal is growing and blooming at the same time? Female
Default phal is growing and blooming at the same time?

I have a miniature phalaenopsis which I just purchased in March in full bloom. the blooms fell and i cut the spike, now is is july and the plant is sending out another flower spike.

what confuses me is that it is also growing a new leaf and i see new root growth... i thought that was not possible? are phalaenopsis capable of blooming which in a growth phase? thanks!

Yes, they are capable of doing so. They may or may not be exhausted by the end of doing this, though. It's possible they may skip a blooming cycle too, sometimes not. It really depends on your Phal hybrid. There are so many under the sun, it's difficult to always predict with the greatest precision what your hybrid Phals will do.

At the moment, there's nothing to worry about.

I have a Phal doing the same thing. I was really happy because it was dying and now it looks like it's coming back really strong, it is growing at such a fast pase.

Lots of my phals are doing that just now. Phals grow in the warmer weather spring/ summer , but just a brief cooler spell can trigger spikes to start. If they are doing that. I wouldn't worry.

Yes Phals are real multi taskers, however I notice that if there are spikes and sub spikes being produce the leaf growth stalls or is growing at a very slow rate

I also have a phal that is blooming and growing a new leave at work. All my other phals have finished blooming so this is a treat. This $1.99 investment has turned out to be a gem.

I've also seen active growth while either blooming or just about to bloom. One of my phals produced 2 new leaves while simultaneously launching forth an aggressive spike and bud campaign. It was super happy at the time and gave me a phenomenal show this past spring.

However, it fell victim to over watering and funky moss. I didn't realize that I should have changed the moss after the last blooming, as store bought potted phals are usually over packed with moss.

Anyway, I re-potted it with fresh moss, loosely packed, and already I'm seeing a new leaf sprouting forth. I'm hoping it will fully recover and once again have another fine stretch of multi-tasking.
