HELP! Black Spots/Yellowing leaf (Indoors Dendro)

Hello Again,

I have had this Dendro for only about 2 months or so, from Lowes. I keep it in the house, on the counter, not Direct light at all, so no sunburn possible. I only water the media, not the leaves, so can't be water sitting on leaves. About every 2 weeks, a leaf will be lying on my counter, looking like this one.

So now I'm stumped. I've looked and looked for the same pics, and all I found was Rungus, and sunburn. I can't be sunburn, so is it A Fungus?? Plz help!

What kind of Dendo is it? It looks like a fungal or bacterial thing to me. What is your humidity like? As far as treatment goes you could try something like Phyton 27 or Funginex. It may be stressed due to Temps being too cold?? Some Dendrobiums are warmer growers and some are cooler.

Hi there, I'm sorry but I don't know what kind it is. It had No label when I bought it. My humidity is pretty low in the 30-40's I suppose for a house. I really don't know for sure. I keep my orchids in the house only when they are in bloom. Other wise they stay outside. My temp stays at 74 when we're home, and 76 when we're gone. I will try treating it. Thank you.

Dendrobiums, for the most part, like warm, humid, bright conditions. When they don't get them, it is common for them to lose existing leaves, as a result of the applied stresses. (Remember, it was probably grown that way before the store got it.)

The damage to the leaf was probably a result of the sloughing process, not the cause of it.

Your leaf looks alot like what I get when my dens lose thier leaves - mostly they just turn yellow, other times they also get spots, etc. like yours. It seems that the spots show up when the plant doesn't get enough light or has a change in environment - as Ray points out above.

At some point, as the canes age, they will lose all their leaves, one by one over time, usually starting from the bottom of the cane and working to the top.

Since we share the same climate and I have somehow ended up with 16 dens - mostly Big Box hand-me-downs from people who loved them in bloom but lost interest after the flowers were gone - might I suggest that your den would benefit from 2-3 hours of early morning direct sun when outside with bright shade for the rest of the day. Dens are tough - hardest orchid to kill in this area for me - and mine seem to love some sun during cooler parts of the day. They grow like weeds.

If you feel you have a need for a fungicide, I would also suggest Hi-Yield Consan 20 which can be found at Ace Hardware or alot of the landscape plant stores (not at the Big Boxes). I got that recommendation from this board, the product was easy to find and it does works well.

I got this a lot in the past. (I love putting my blooming plants inside) Now I only leave them inside during the day and put them outside at night. I found that it helps. Hope it works for u too.

I have leaves that look like this on mine too. Its outside, humid, warm and only morning sun facing east. I was worried it was sick.
