Ray has a combination of seaweed and fertilizer that works well.

Aside from Bud's suggestion, any balance fertillizer should work just fine, if you prefer to shop locally.

OK, i FINALLY am able to go get some fertilizer for this gang of orchids. another question i meant to ask about fertilizing, is fertilizing something you do a certain amount weekly, or once a month or what? AND what are some things that could happen to an orchid if it went without fertilization for a SUPER long time or never? (i ask this so if i see something weird about one of the ones that have never had it i can safely assume if from no fertilization)

I just went to the Search icon on the OB and typed in "Fertilizing Phals" and came up with 15 different posts. As I have always said, ask 10 people a question on fertilizers and you will get 12 different answers! There are hundreds, if not thousands, of fertilizer combinations available on and off the market. Some are simple and some are very, very complex. Use what works best for you and you can obtain easily.

And yes, some fertilizer is better than none. Look at it as a proper diet for orchids.

And by the way, the one thing almost all of us agree on is the weekly/weakly use of a fertilizer.

Good luck,

Cym Ladye

Here's the bottom line of feeding orchids:

1) They don't need much.
2) Look for a formula that has more than just N, P & K, as the plants need the trace elements.
3) If you want to make life real simple, water with a very dilute fertilizer (maybe 50-75 ppm N) at 3 out of every 4 waterings. If you prefer to use a schedule for your feeding, increase the concentration proportionately.

Ray has given you excellent advice and this will definitely work for you.

In regard to your search: I went to the Menu Bar at the very top of the OB, dragged down the empty box, typed in specifically Phal fertilizing and then hit "go". If you type in only Fertilizing, you will get 500 threads! It should work if you are in the right Menu bar, the one that holds the sign in and sign out features. This is such a great search feature and I suspect few people use it to its best advantage.

I actually find the search bar on OB to be not so good, since it ignores words with 3 letters or less. I prefer using google, and telling it to search only in orchidboard.com pages.
