Where to buy orchids on Big Island - Orchid Board

Hi everyone. It's been a long time since I last posted. My hubby retired a few months ago and has become obsessed with my orchid collection. He has turned into an orchid-holic. This past month he has purchased at least 20 phals for which I am thrilled except, I grow them inside my house and have run out of space for them. This along with my chids, dens.-I think we now total somewhere around 70 or 80 plants

Anyway, that's not why I am posting exactly. We're going to the. Big Island in Sept. and I need to know where all the orchid buying places are on the island.

Carmela's & Atkatsuka's. Both are near Hilo. Carmela's is more reasonable price wise.

Tropical Orchid Farm is one of my favorites. You might have to call ahead, but if you go, please take/post some pictures!!

I used to live onthe Big Island and I absolutely LOVE Akatsuka's place. It's pretty high in elevation and is located in the cloud forest right next to the entrance to the Volcano National Park. I never made it over to Carmela's though. Yamamoto Dendrobiums is also on the Hilo side. There are a number of small vendors that you can pop your head into and maybe check out the Hilo Orchid Society's page and find out if a meeting is going on while you're there.

TOF is amazing! However, its on Maui, not the Big Island.
