Default Identification and care

I am a new orchid owner and need help. All I have to go on is the tag that came in the pot. I have searched the internet for care information and to try and find out what type it is with no luck.

I have had the plant for a week now and was healthy until this morning when I looked at it. It now has little black spots on the leaves. Is this due to too much humidity? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, and welcome to OB!

in order to receive advice, it would be necessary to provide at least the name of the plant you have... and even better it would be if you can post a picture of it and of the "sick" leaves...

What you have is Odontocidium (abreviated 'Odcdm'). It is a cross between Odontoglossum and Oncidium. Carter and Holmes has a good generak care info that may help you:

Hope this helps. Goodluck with your new orchid

Oh and forgot to say that [Sunny Daze] is a name for this particular cross and 'Hilo Bay' is a cultivar name.

Glad you found us!

Yes, it's Odontoglossum x Oncidium - general Oncidium care - lightly moist media, moderate light.
Oncidium alliance are prone to leaf spotting. When I get spots looking as yours do, I do try to make sure I am not overwatering (don't know if that's the cause, but I have gotten some like this in winter, and thought the cooler damper weather with too much water MAY have been the culprit)

I try to watch the new growth - if they are free of spots, I don't worry much about it.

Currently the plant is on my screened porch. I live in Central Florida and I have only had the plant for a week. The plant was fine until this morning when I checked on it. It has done nothing but pour rain for the last couple of days due to tropical depression Debbie. So are the spots from an excess of moisture in the air? What do I do with the plant now?

I don't know that humidity alone would cause the spots, but media being quite wet at the same time, and lack of air movement perhaps ? If the media is quite wet, can you move the plant to a drier spot? Indoors? I don't think the spots are super concerning, but if plant is staying to wet, could become so.

Oncidium alliance orchids get this on old leaves. It is common and shouldn't be a concern. What concerns me is that I used to know a HippieChick on usefilm.com and lost touch. Could you be her? If so....How the heck are ya?
