Have posted 3 pictures to my album don't know how to get them here.

Not sure what these are but both said just add ice. Have one tag says phaleaneopsis.

I have been given to orchids that I have enjoyed a bunch. Now I have what i think are to keikis on one plant that I need help with. I'm not sure if and how to proceed to detach and replant. Also does the original plant need to be repotted? All advise accepted please.(See 2 pictures)

The other plant has not done as well. Bloomed once but appears to be putting off new roots. Should it be repotted?

Thanks for any and all advise.

Welcome to Orchid Board. The pictures didn't show up here. I advise you to stop watering those orchids with ice cubes and start watering them once a week with distilled or reverse osmosis water until we know where you live and what your water is like. Ice cubes are too cold for orchids and dont provide enough water for them. Give them some oderate light levels but not full sun during the middle of the day. Morning or afternoon sun is ok but any moderately bright light will do. Most likely you have some phalaenopsis orchids with large leaves. Post some pictures please. Welcome.

The orchids are Phals. I've added a link to your album here for others to see. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...y-orchids.html

The first thing is that most people say that the 'just add ice' watering technique is not a good one. Some disagree, but I have to say on on the side of NOT following it. I would water with lukewarm water, watering thoroughly with lots of water then letting it fully drain before putting it back in the outer pot (I can see in the pictures that you have inner plastic pots and outer pots so lift the inner pot out to water it and ensure there is not water left standing in the outer pot after watering).

Yes you have keikis. The general guide is that they should have 3" of roots before removing them, that can be one root of 3" or multiple shorter roots that add up to 3" worth of roots. I've never removed a phal keiki, with dendrobiums I just twist them off. I think that with Phals you can cut the spike either side of the keiki.

It's good to repot every couple of years when growing in bark, when new you don't know how long since it was last repotted so it's probably good to do.

Take a look at this thread for help growing Phals. It's got some great information in it and is worth the read. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ends-here.html

Thanks for putting the pics where we can see them Rosie. You are a genius. These look like they are ready to cut off and repot by themselves. The rots on the larger plant look a little dried up to me. Better pics would help.
