I am wondering: is it possible to repair shrivelled canes and "bulbs" (is that what they're called?)? I have several orchids that continue to do okay, but the shrivelling that took place after they came into my care has not improved. If this is repairable, what are some ways you have fixed this?
Thanks!

If they are the older growths, they will probably stay shriveled. In fact, its common for older growths to get this way. If the plant is producing new growths (and new roots) that look healthy and plump, i wouldnt worry about it.

I agree with Dave. You may want to see if there is newer growth on your 'chids...otherwise, you may want to increase humidity and/or watering/misting schedule. Try to make sure though, that your 'chids are pretty dry before putting them "to bed"...too much water can cause rot.
It's a frustrating balance to figure out (trust me, I've had casualties too), but each plant tends to "want" a different level of moisture. Our job is to try to figure out what that is...so experiement we must!
Post some photos when you get a chance to let us know how it is going!
