The problem I have encountered using medium bark for finer rooted plants is when it's time to repot, it's extremely difficult to get the bark separated from the roots - I'm afraid I have done a fair amount of damage to roots

I have got some nice orchids in stores - Trader Joe's, nice Cyms (noid) at Costco, local hardware and nursery chains.
Shipping costs are prohibitive to me, so it's local stores, or orchid shows/events (which is the best way to go!)

Vandas can be quite big and need a lot of light - not all, but many. Also love humidity. Can be grown in a pot or vase however.

Hi. Get yourself over to the orchid club next time they have a meeting. You'll find they will be friendly and helpful. Don't judge lest you be judged in return. Tats don't make the person. What's inside makes you and that will show to those around you. So be brave and get over to the next orchid club meeting. If anyone gives you a hard time, just let me know. I'll send Big Tony over to help them change their ways (;
PS- I like your idea of cutting up spagnum moss into one inch long pieces and mixing it into your medium mix at a rate of one handful of moss to three handfuls of mix. Should work great.

Thanks for the website I will definitely look at that and when I find a flower I like I'll run it by all you knowledged members.

Do you think even with this heat it could still work? Indoor growing for Vanda is not as good an idea I gather? Or I should say only indoor growing.

Oh wow total refresh on my system and I just got your other replies. I think your right my bf has said I should just suck it up and go as well. I have heard Vandas can get huge and I've seen pics. I also love my Oncidium alliance so I'm sure I'll find something soon. Those Vanda blooms are so incredible. And I love the anatomy on Vandas.

I will be doing all these things you all suggest.

With the medium I sort of feared that issue. Trial and error again. :/ I'm so used to Phals so I've got dome TLC to analyse. Took me 20 Phals to get it right. Don't wanna go that route again.

Thank you all.

Look at Ascocentrums. I believe they are a bit smaller than Vandas and there are Ascocendas too. Ascocenda is a hybrid of Ascocentrum x Vanda. These might fit better if you have limited space.

The big, high light ones can be difficult indoors, tho people do it. You have that nice bay window, I think you said, so that might be good for a Vanda.

Like Wynn Dee said, there are smaller orchids with the same look. And there are smaller Vandas too.

As for the bark size issue - that at least has been MY experience with the medium bark and the finer roots. They grow fine in the chunkier bark, but have had trouble dislodging the bark from the roots when I want to repot.
