I would wait for these senior members to help you. They are wonderful. I am a total newbie with Oncidiums myself. Any Phal questions I can help.

I don't think it is permanently stunted. If the plant is small it might not be big enough to bloom such a large spike yet. Can you tell if it has bloomed before? If it hasn't and since it is small it might be a first bloomed seedling and will produce bigger spikes as it gets older. It also could of only bloomed four blooms on such a small spike because it didn't have the strength to put out a larger spike. It might not be getting enough light, water, or other things it needs to bloom better. If it is a mature plant this is probably the case. Remember Sonya's plant is very large in a 10" inch pot so it is very big and strong. If your plant hasn't been grown well or taken care of right in the last year or longer it is less likley to bloom with a lot of flowers or multiple spikes.

Does your plant have a tag saying it is Oncidium Sharry Baby? I ask because I have seen people on here post pics of an Oncidium that is a totally different color of this plant and call it a Sharry Baby. I think they thought an Oncidium in general was called a Sharry Baby. I have never seen a pink or yellow Oncidium Sharry Baby. They are a brown/red color usually with white on the flower. Here is a link to pics of Sharry Baby. oncidium sharry baby - Google Search

Sweet Fragrance is the best clone in my opinion. It does smell great! If your neighbor grew it in shade for years, that is most likely why it bloomed with only four flowers. It needed more light. I'm sure it will do great now that it is in better care. These guys grow fast so I'm sure you will have a beautiful specimen soon! Show us pics when you get it growing better! Good luck!

I went back to that same store and left with Oncidiums again instead of Phals. Failed my first Zygo, didn't kill it but lost my blooms...after experiencing how resilient pbulb orchids are I find its so much more rewarding with pbulb orchids. Though I do wish it was different with Phals, but I fail more Times than succeed. I have not lost one of my Oncidium alliance. Just Phals.
I still struggle growing Phals, and have had much more success with Onc alliance, and other orchids with pbulbs also - they have the stored resources to use should you muck things up badly

I would guess it needs something it's not getting - could be more light, fertilizer. Or could be lack of good roots from either too much or not enough water. Are the pbulbs plump and big? Does the new growth foliage come in smooth or is it pleated?
