I noticed what I believe to be a spike because the first spike bloomed with the dark brown color of this newest form shown here. I want to know what you think of this look and if the Phals are in fact, not being able to break through...what is going wrong especially when the one shown in the second photo is so HEALTHY!
3: can spikes be different colors because the one posted that was lovely and green...its in full bloom too has even lost a few blooms in its age and its spike present now is the same color as my new baby spike i showed in the original question.

spikes do not emerge from the "middle" like that. You may or may not get roots emerging, eventually. Looks to me that root/s started and then stalled. Happens occasionally.
