Hi Tiffany, in that first picture it actually looks to me like a root which was cut off. That is sometimes done with areal roots to make the plant look neater for sale (I wish they wouldn't but they do).

I'm afraid I can't really tell on the second photo, but if it was mine I wouldn't worry too much at this point.

Yes spikes can be different colours, though the new tip is usually green. Red/brown spikes tend to go with red/dark flowers and lighter spikes with lighter flowers, though I've seen times when they don't match up like that.

good! Susie11 I am glad! means their still coming...well gosh i wish that the second photo would already! its doing so well and the blooms on it are so big and unique. Thank you all for clarifying that.

I see Rosie in fact, the one spike we see at the top of this discussion is a very light neon green bloom with almost pink stripes. Where as the third photo posted is of a dark orangey and red sprayed pattered Phal. I was just wondering if the newest spikes match with the previous passed spikes. Thank you!
