I strongly advise not to taste Vanillas, the sap is irritant and allergenic.
I'm not sure that looking at what snails have a go to to clear it as not toxic is a very good idea…

LOL - that's awesome! Thinking about it, I guess it shouldn't be surprising that they are sweet tasting - stored resources for the plant probably include plant sugars. Might have to try this sometime
There may be a few orchids that are toxic but orchids are generally considered non-toxic, safe for homes with small children and pets. And there is that Turkish orchid 'ice-cream' - tho that is made from tubers of a terrestrial orchid I believe ? But probably safer to munch on an orchid than on 'found' wild growing mushrooms.
Lily bulbs on the other hand ... I think generally true bulbs should be considered toxic, tho perhaps not all are.

It's real

Just a quick browse regarding any toxic orchids - as I stated earlier, they are generally considered non-toxic and safe for homes with pets and children, but I wasn't positive there were NO toxic orchids, but if there were, doubtful anything that most of us are likely to be growing.
I see no hits on Google of any toxic orchids - there may be some undiscovered ones, but any that any of us are growing are not toxic.

I laughed so hard.
After reading this post, I have to admit that it got me curious.
I have some dendrobium canes laying on moss, catt that is not blooming for me, one oncidium alliance I'm not too fond of....hmmmm which one should I take a bit first?
Maybe all three and then share my dicovery here with others?

...like sugarcane....who would have thought! I know orchids are edible and most of them are not toxic to mammals...I have seen dried orchid sold in jars at the local Chinatown in NYC maybe medicinal or aphrodisiac...I must ask them what specie orchid it is...

Aren't snails ferocious eaters of pseudo-bulbs?
IMHO to base the edibility of a plant on it's capacity to attract evil hungry snails is not the most scientific way to do so… (more seriously, I'd strongly advise not to test edibility. You never know.
There's 2 vanillas species from Africa that have a "medical" (medical as in via…a use locally.
