Black spotting on Neostylis Male
Default Black spotting on Neostylis

Is this normal, too much light, or another issue altogether?

that's from high light, and I don't believe it's a problem - mine gets that way in winter when it's in the south facing window

Yippee! So my gut instinct was correct! Thank you WhiteRabbit! Now if my gut instinct would start telling me how to get it to bloom, lol...

Abuse it. Lol and I agree, the spots is from high light, which they enjoy. I don't know what your conditions are like but if you want to coax this guy into blooming and your night temps get into the low 60s or even 50s, put it outside for the next few weeks. Be careful not to give it direct sunlight unless it is use to it...you know, acclimate it properly so you don't scorch the thing.... Mine will spike within a week or two when I do that.

My Neostylis get the same spots too. I regard them as freckles like you would get when you get too much sun. Mine is just a baby. Yours looks nice, big and healthy.
